Her fascinating programme places seven Australian works in a broader context by juxtaposing their diversity with two formidable names in contemporary music: Pierre Boulez and Iannis Xenakis… She brings great verve and technical control of the 12 sections of the Boulez piece… while in the Xenakis, her command over its numerous redoubtable contrasts – of timbre, volume, tonal density and attack – is virtuosity at the highest level. The recording has a glacial clarity which such music and technical excellence demand; every detail of Stephanie McCallum's mastery of dynamics is there to be relished in a very special anthology.
